IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Ken Amada
Species: Human
Canon: Persona 3 (Reload-compliant, mostly)
Canon Point: Immediately after October 4th
Character Age: 10

Ken has lived and experienced death, violence, and some aspects of suicidal ideation. He has seen the death of his mother first hand along with witnessing the death of Shinjiro. Not only that, he was fully intending on killing himself as soon as he got his revenge. Considering his age, he has shown remarkable capacity to deal with the Dark Hour. Within that hour, he has seen people in coffins, blood, and fighting shadows. He was also even exposed to pointing a fake gun to himself to “trigger” a fight or flight response to summon his Persona.

CRAU: N
Character Appearance: Here.

Powers and Abilities:
In Persona 3, there are people who have the 'Potential'. It means they possess the potential to summon a Persona, beings that are like guardian figures to fight against beings called shadows, the negative emotions of humans that take form. However, he can’t summon it without his Evoker, a fake gun.

Ken’s Persona is Nemesis. Here are a list of the Persona's ability.

Hamaon = It is a light-based attack that could have the potential to do an instant kill on one foe at 40%
Cruel Attack = Deals medium Pierce damage to one foe.
Zionga = Deals medium Elec damage / Shocks one foe.
Diarama = Moderately restores 1 ally's HP.
Recarm = Revives an ally, restoring 50% of HP.

Even without his Persona, Ken is an athletic boy. He can fight with a polearm considering he spends a lot of time in the dark hour. He is also part of the soccer team at his elementary school. Due to this, he has good stamina.

Character Questions:

1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon, or who is someone they miss the most and why?
That would be his mother. She was a single mother and was the only one by his side for most of his life. It has been stated many times that his relatives never took an interest in Ken and gave him money to take care of himself. When she died, Ken vowed to get revenge no matter what as he felt that the only person who cared about him was gone. He said that without his mother, his life didn’t have any meaning. It meant that there was no one who cared about him. He was willing to kill himself because he also wanted to be with his mother too.

2. What are they most afraid of and why?
To be honest, at this point in his canon, it would be himself. He was blinded by his own act of revenge, he wasn’t aware just what he was capable of. While he knew deep down that he could never really kill Shinjiro, he didn’t think it would go that far. Upon seeing his death, that’s when he realizes the consequences of his actions. That is when he becomes aware of his own immature decisions and just isn’t aware of what to do next. So much so, in the aftermath of Shinjiro’s death, he found himself unable to make a choice. He knew that he had to move forward but was afraid to as he couldn’t face the idea of living and being aware of his actions. On a similar note, during this point in his canon, he would probably be scared of his teammates too. Ken knows what he did and he is scared if they would accept him again.

3. What are their emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses and why?
Physically, he has the trapping of what a 10 year old should be. He is considered short compared to all of SEES and it shows. He is aware of this and tries to overcompensate by acting more mature than he should be. He even tried to drink as much milk as he could in hopes that he could grow taller.

Mentally, he tries to hide his depression by acting like a polite kid. He doesn’t outwardly show it but there are hints. In Reload, a classmate of his said why he quit soccer. Ken simply responded with how he was just busy all the time when in reality, he was placing some distance between himself and those around him. He was mentally preparing himself for death. Even when his leader took him out to dinner, Ken said that he couldn’t say it was delicious. It meant that he had something to look forward to when he knew he just couldn’t.

Emotionally, that is his biggest weakness. He is still a 10 year old boy who had nobody to grieve for when his mother died. When he tried to explain what he saw to the police, they brushed him off and thought he was imagining things. It was then that his emotions got the better of him and vowed to get revenge. He wasn’t thinking clearly as he was fueled by hate and rage for Shinjiro. It was because of this that he let his feelings go too far and it had consequences.

4. What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?

Outwardly, people have commented how he doesn’t act like his age. Between going to the shrine often, training, and being polite, he never allows himself a day off. This was proven as Junpei mentioned if he was secretly an old man. With this, he comes across as someone who acts really cool for his age. He would make comments about why adults do the things they do. For instance, he makes a comment about why adults drink coffee all the time or why teenage girls need to be so fashionable. Due to these observations, it makes him more worldly compared to a normal 10 year old. Additionally, he frequently uses Japanese honorifics to everyone around him as a way to prove how mature and polite he is.

Compared to his inner self, Ken is a boy that is depressed and struggling to control his rage. To the point where it seems uncharacteristic of this sweet and polite boy. After seeing the death of his mother, he wanted revenge no matter what it took. Despite knowing that he was using this as an excuse to keep on living, he convinced himself that it would be worth it. He convinced himself that is what his mother wanted. When in reality, Ken was just lonely and didn’t know how to properly deal with death. Having no one else in his life who cared about him, he figured that he should kill himself after killing Shinjiro. After all, he knew what he did was wrong but he figured that there was no point in living without his mother.

5. What would make them happiest and why?
That would be him being a nerd and talking about his favorite TV shows or comics. Try as he might, he is still a kid. He enjoys the usual thing a 10 year old boy should. That includes superheroes, comic books, sports, and the occasional random fact about something he learned. Throughout Persona 3, he keeps talking about Neo Featherman and why the show is amazing. When he watches movies with the leader, he keeps making comments about why people like it or why it was amazing. However, he usually brushes this off. He would state that it was something a classmate of his told him or that it was something “in fashion”.

6. What characteristics does someone need to have to be your character's ideal significant other best friend?
Ken really just needs a friend who would understand his grief and depression. He didn’t have anyone to really talk to considering people said his mother’s death was an “accident”. He knew it wasn’t but he also knew that nobody would believe him. Even when he had friends who knew about the Dark Hour, he also couldn’t talk to them about it as he didn’t know how they’ll react. Later points in his canon, he could look up to his teammates as they empathize with him. This is especially true with his leader and Akihiko who encouraged Ken to keep on moving forward.

If Ken had been honest with them about what his true intentions were in joining SEES, the events in October could have been prevented.

7. Would your character make a sacrifice to save someone else and why or why not?

Definitely. While Ken is a boy who holds hate, he is also a sweet boy. He is willing to sacrifice himself if it means saving others. Again, he initially joined SEES with the intention of killing Shinjiro but he also knew that going to the Dark Hour was dangerous. Any time he went to fight shadows, he may or may not die. Even when his teammates told him, he still did it in hopes of stopping any more destruction to the city. He was willing to die for the sake of protecting Fuuka, the team’s navigator. He tricked Takaya into saying it was him and knew he was going to die. While Ken wanted to die at this point, he was willing to for the sake of protecting his teammates.

8. What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance, or if your character is young, what is one thing they would want their older self to remember?
Honestly, at this point in his canon, he isn't really thinking about his future since he doesn't know how to move forward just yet.

Instead, he would tell his younger self to think before you act. Ken knows that his own hate and anger would make him not listen to anyone. Instead, he would tell his younger self to think more critically about his decisions. Ken is someone who hardest to act like an adult when in reality, he’s very emotional. He is still a kid and Ken would probably tell himself to be even more mature than before. After all, he doesn’t want more consequences because of his own actions.

Even when all he could think about is revenge, there are examples of his decisions that backfired. He tries various ways to make himself look mature such as drinking milk to grow taller (despite how it hurts his stomach) and drinking black coffee (even though he hates it).

9. When in dire circumstances does your character fight, flee, freeze or fawn and how does that look?

It depends. For the most part, Ken would definitely fight. While he was the one who wanted to join SEES in hopes of getting closer to Shinjiro, he was still willing to fight shadows. Even when Takaya was asking for Fuuka, the team’s navigator, Ken was still willing to say that it was him. This shows that he had a stubborn spirit to him if he could. If it meant helping someone out, he would fight. And yet, he didn’t bother to fight Takaya as his will to fight and live died.

Considering the circumstances, he froze after Shinjiro’s death. He didn’t have any meaning to his life and wasn’t sure what to do. Ken said that he was scared not knowing what to do. Even then, it didn’t take him long for him to keep on fighting after Akihiko told him to keep moving forward as that was all he could do. Upon some introspection, Ken realized that he did have the will to keep on living.

10. Why did your character make the wish they did?
At the time of his canon, Ken already wanted to die. After the loss of his mother, he wanted to find a reason to keep living but he didn’t know how. He wanted to get revenge for his mother’s killer, Shinjiro, as he figured the hate in him would give him that outlet. However, he also was planning on killing himself as soon as he killed Shinjiro. After his death, Ken just found no real reason to keep on living and he doesn’t even know if any of his friends would accept him. He figured if he switched places with Shinjiro, he could at least die knowing he protected someone and to not have his life wasted away. Even more so when he was willing to die and sacrifice himself for SEES by stating that he was the navigator moments before Shinjiro saved him.
