A very useful message, clearly. But at least Ange isn't hanging up directly after saying it, like she's actually waiting to hear his answer, rather than saying that and then fleeing off into the night before she can get embarrassed by someone younger than her. ]

[Somehow, Ken wasn't surprised by her answer. If anything, he was surprised that she hadn't said it sooner. Which was why he stared at the message before tilting his head to the side.]

Uh...I guess friend is too strong of a word? Maybe acquaintances would be better?

[ To be fair, it's hard to tell what kind of answer Ange expected. The chance that it'd be one that wouldn't somehow embarrass her only further was so small, huh.

Especially since this one definitely embarrasses her further. It even makes her cut out the voice feed for a moment, just so she can audibly groan where he can't head it - it's cringe, okay, cringe!! - before turning it back on so she can actually reply to him. ]

Not just that part. I mean-- all of it. It was dumb. I was being dumb.

[Ah, yes, this was definitely something he was familiar with. Based on her answer, it was something that Junpei and some of his middle school friends would say. This was definitely someone who he could say is a tsundere.

But he dared not to say that out loud.]

...It's nothing to be embarrassed about but if you want to me to forget about it, I will.

[Pause] But I wasn't kidding when I said that I would want to get to know you better. [Because 'friend' was too strong of a word apparently.]

[ Please, Ken. Why do you have to be this direct. Nothing to be embarrassed about? B-Baka, who said that she's feeling embarrassed right now!!

That callout stuns her into silence for a moment until Ange manages to gather the social courage necessary to speak again. ]

.. you aren't just saying that because you pity me, are you?

[ Ange did say some pretty extreme things back there, after all. And it's not like she was lying about them. Hell, it's not even like none of it applies to her right now. She's still thinking all of that. She's been thinking all of that all this time, no matter how emotionless she might have been trying to appear before. ]

[He had been in a pretty pathetic situation himself and if it weren't for his friends, he wouldn't even be here anymore. The last thing he wanted was for Ange to be left behind and feel the need to do everything for herself.]

( the only reason she is sharing this information with ken is because of their last conversation. he promised he would never betray her (within his control) and that alone is enough to tag him in her INX CLUB of important people. so after a two minute wait, he will receive an audio clip that isn't jinx speaking but others. )

Person a: Duplicity? That's it? There's no way that that girl hasn't done other things.
Person b: Yeah, I think that crime isn't harsh enough. Some of them aren't harsh enough at all! Who--[STATIC NOISES]
Person a: Maybe we can [MORE STATIC NOISES].
Person c: That'd be so much more interesting!!

[Ken didn't say anything at first. Instead, he was trying to let what he had heard sink in. Staring at the screen, he knew he had to take this seriously. He didn't want to end up upsetting Jinx.]

...Is that the crime you were charged with? Duplicity?

Nope! My crime is somethin' else completely. I dunno how this got to my tablet or who they're talkin' about, but it sounding like the council are just picking whatever crime they want on us. Whatever is more "interesting".

But what for? Just to see what crime you'll get and to see whatever punishment will fit? If so, that's just unnecessarily cruel.

Whaddya think the council snob noses were in the first place? Nice? — 'Course they're asses. They're asses for using their heebie-jeebie twinkle magic to make us go through shit instead of just leavin' us alone.

( a brief pause. )

I'm all for sticking around this place, but if I want to kick the nest to make things interesting around here, I'd do it myself. I don't NEED some council dummies to do it for me.

Which makes it all the more frustrating that they are doing this and there isn't anything we can do.

[Especially when he really couldn't look to the brighter side of things. All they could do was just stand there and do nothing.]

...But if you are going to do something interesting? Just make sure you don't get in too much trouble.
